Happy new year!

Well, ive had a great christmas. Gotten alot of good food (a bit to much im affraid!), and some nice time in a snowy landscape in the western mountains of Sweden. Was awsome. We went to an frozen waterfall. Had a great time in the cabbin, and just relaxed alot.

I have also managed to squeze in some training in these hectic christmas time. Working in the gymnasium, getting some technique training down. Working a bit more on my flips, and my parkour skills in general.

Also been working out with free weights, to enchance my strength, and burn some of the christmas calories away :)

All in all, the holidays have so far been really nice. New years eve tomorrow. Will be a relaxed evening, just me and my girlfriend, some good food, and moderate amounts of alcohol. I aim to do a 5 km run on the first morning of the new year. So I guess I wont be up so much longer then after the clock has passed twelve ;)

We will see. Anyway, did some new achivements just before christmas. Made two small clips, ill link em

First, is my first muscleup transisition! Finally managed to get in the technique of moving my hands properly so I could press my body up thru the transisition into the dip. Didnt manage to get it down every atempt, but im making progress! Ive noticed its not just pure strength I lack. Its alot more technique then I thought in it aswell. So Ill be doing those "cheat" muscleups to train my transisition some more.

Also got over my mental barrier pretty much for the wallflip. Really nice to be doing some progress. Also I got my first double kong down. My first proper, where i manage to extend my legs in between the two objects. No big gap im doing. Im just trying the technique out. So ill probably be trying some bigger gaps soon enough as my technique improves.

Well. Just watch the two short clips.

Also, im going to try to do alot more strength training focusing using my own body weight, instead of lifting weights in the gym. I think I dont want to bulk up anymore, but rather become a bit more slim, and improve my endurance. So im going to try a four week "circle routine", and see what kind of difference it will make. Will be interesting, and ill be posting my progress.

Ill try to make some strength training clip aswell, to give you an idea of how I train. Might be interesting ;)

Anyway, I wish you all a happy new year, and I hope you have had a great christmas!

Cheers!

Good day, good week

Well, its been a good day for me. With some nice training, and a good week all in all.
I have been training the whole week more or less, working mostly on strength and technique this week. Going to take a long run on sunday I think. I am really in the mood for a long run.

This week has been pretty ok weather wise. Some lights of sun has managed to come thru the thick grey clouds here. Been really nice, and helping in this dark season of the year.

So I have been outside training alot this week. Went to the gym for the first time this week today. But I did train outside earlier today. Did some nice balance training, and alot of precision jumps. Felt really good.

Then later in the afternoon when I was in the gym, I went to the gymnastics hall, and set up an obstacle course. Was really good training, to get some flow, and nail some obstacles I havent tried much before.
I got to train on kong jump to cat, and kong to precision jump thatI havent trained before. Also trained some tight underbars.

On the everyday non training aspect of my life. Nothing much to report right now. My girlfriend just did her last day at work, before the christmas holidays. So now we are both off from work, wich is great. Going to get alot of time together. Christmas is all planned out, and we will be spending it with her parents, wich we usually do. Ill have to try to not eat to much of the unhealthy stuff. :)

Then after christmas we are going to a family cabbin we have in my family in the northen parts of "Dalarna" (the middle of sweden). For some skiing, sauna and snow. They have looots of snow up there, unlike here. Here it looks more like its april. Wich is both good and bad in my oppinion. Good for my training, but bad since everything is so much darker. Besides, Its winter. There should be some snow here!

Oh well. Cant have everything I suppose. We did have tons of snow here for a week. But that has all melted away now unfortunally. Lets hope we get some new!

Also. I have been talking alot about my backflips, and my progress with flips in general. I dont only train that kind of stuff. Its actually a very small part of my training. Its just something I do as a suppliment to my normal parkour training due to the fact that its fun, and i enjoy to challenge myself with new things to overcome! Just to clarify. Flips has nothing to do with parkour. I dont mind doing them, nor people doing them. Just as long as people dont call flips parkour. Then its parkour AND flips. Just felt a need to clarify that, due to the fact that alot of my posts have been so focused on my flips progression, even tho I intended for this to be a parkour training blog. I guess its just a training blog right now. :)

Stay safe everyone. Bedtime for me now..

First outdoor backflips on grass

Had trouble sleeping. So I did some quick editing, and uploaded my first backflips on grass.

Been a while

Ive been a bit lazy latley it seems. Havent really thought about writing here for some time now. Been working, and training, and havent really thought about this..

Oh well. Better late then never. Besides. Nothing really interesting to say. Havent happend much new things with my training. Small improvements here and there in my technique regarding parkour, and some minor strength and condition improvements.

I did actually do my first backflip outside on grass today. On flat ground I mean. Filmed it too. So ill upload it later.

I guess my fear for backflips is my biggest improvement so far. Has nothing to do with parkour really. But in a way it still does. For me atleast. It helps me to learn that I can do things I didnt think I was able to before. I have really learned to master my fear, and not be affraid to try new things. Some jumps is not as frightening anymore to try. If I fail, I dont get scared as easily now either. I just get up, and try again. So, in a way, for me atleast, it helps alot to learn backflips and other flips. But mainly, Im learning them cause its alot of fun!

As a side note, I got some time off from work aswell. Dont start again untill 5:th of january! So I got myself a x-mas vaacation! Really great, and I hope I can put all this spare time to good use. I will sure train alot! :)

Anyway. Take care. Now Im gonna get ready for bed.

Rest

Today was a day of rest. My body felt sore today. Just done a few minor indoor exercises with my dumbell and my body as weight.

Yesterday, was a good day tho. I took the oppurtunity of having lots of snow here as we usually dont. So I went outside, and trained backflips. Did lots of em outside. Not on completly flat ground tho. Did some in a small slope, and from a higher elevation. Was good fun tho, and helped alot with my mental challenges.

Then later in the evening I went to the gym, and trained chest and biceps as I always do on mondays. Also did some pullups.

After the gym I went into the gymnastics hall and trained some backflips and some round off back flicks.

Did my first backflip and round off backflick on hard surface indoor aswell. Felt awsome. I still have fear for the round off back flick. But I did it twice without spotter tho. So I am getting there!

Doing it on grass or maybe even on asfalt this spring/summer does not seem so impossible now.

Now im gonna get ready for the bed. Hard day tomorrow with conditioning during the early day. And gym later on the afternoon.

Bye bye

Winter

Winter finally hit us here where I live with full force. Its really white everywhere now, and pretty decent amounts of snow around here. Usually dont get so much snow here where I live. But now we got a decent amount. And I hope we get some more. Makes everything so much brighter in this dark season of the year. Plus its fun! Skiing and skating was a while agoo. Would be fun.

Besides lots of snow, we also got a damn winter storm here right now. There have been moments this evening when we almost thought the windows would blow into our living room. Snow and strong winds is a mighty combination.

Just got in from quick walk with the dog.. Times like these makes you realize how small man is compared to the force of nature. Feels great to just close my eyes in the raging blizzard and just feel.

Anyway.. Did a run today when I woke up after my hard weekend of work. Felt really good! Longest run so far with no stops since I started to run more. Then this evening, I was pondering on how many pushups I could do in one sweap. Well. Just did 40. Could probably have done a few more. But I suppose its decent. In january I expect myelf to do around 80 - 100 in one sweap. We will see how that goes ;)

Now im going to just layback, and listen to the storm, before I get ready for sleep..

Hard training

Today was an awsome day in many ways..

I had a good 2 hour session in the gymnastics hall today. Got to train alot of stuff. I worked some more on my round off back flick. I trained some backflips, and also realized I could train cat leaps in there. I dont have any natural obstacles to train cat leaps on here where I live. So that was good. I have hardly trained that before. Was good to work on that.

All in all, it was a good day. My mental barriers are slowly falling down, when it comes to backflips and stuff like that. Now it comes down to technique. I still need alot more height in my backflips. I have a tendency to jump a little backwards, instead of straight up. Working on that.

And my back flicks got better when I put my arms closer together, and my legs more together. Not shown in the clip tho.

As you can see, I filmed some of what I did in the gym today. Just a few minutes of my 2 hours in there. But gives you and idea of what and how I trained today.

I also realized I dont really have any program or routine for indoor parkour training like that. So next time im in there, im going to make some sort of scheme for how im going to train. Right now, I just randomly do stuff I feel I want to improve in, and that I think is fun. Gotta get more strutcture on my training. Just like I have when im in the gym lifting weights.

Rule number one, is ofcourse to listen to my body, and train what my body tells me I need to train. Focus on my weakest aspects.

One goal I have after today wich I didnt manage to do today, is to manage atleast one clean muscleup. I did manage a sloppy half hearted one.. But it dont count. I have no problem doing pullups, nor doing dips. But its that transisition, from the pullup, to the dip position that I just cant do. I guess I need to work my shoulders and chest muscles more for that one. I aim to be able to do a muscleup by the beginning of january. Thats my current goal atleast.

We will see how it goes. Now its sleep time for me!

Mental control

Today was a good day in the gym. Did a warmup run on the treadmill for about 12 minutes. With the 2 last minutes as sprint. Felt really good.

I then went on to train my chest and biceps. Felt good, and I did more wieght in my bicep training then last week. So progress is coming along nice. Also did alot of pullups, with fingers against me, and away from me. Plus wide grip, where I get the bar behind my head. Dont know what that one is called. But it felt good. Hoping I can nail the muscleup soon. Atempted today. But im to weak yet. I can do the dip and the pullup part. But the transistion from pullup to dip is just not possible for me yet. Atleast not after training chest/biceps for almost 40 mins in the gym. Gonna try again tomorrow.

Then it was my lucky day, as the gymnastics hall was open and free today. So I got alot of time in there. Trained my dash vault some. Did some double kong training wich I hadnt atempted before due to not having any urban obstacles here where I live to train it on. Went nice, but I still need some training there. Also trained some kong precision jumps from one plinth(? Unsure of the spelling in english he he) to another. Then I procceded on to train some backflips wich went smoth, and im starting to get some height in em now. Did some from ground, and some from a plinth.

I then trained some standing back flick, and round off backflick. Adding the round off was new to me. But I got the hang of it, and I could really feel the improved power in my back flick after the round off. Felt great today. No fear! Buuut.. Now the real path begins. My path towards hard surface hehe. So I guess I will be in a new world of fear soon enough.

Im going to get my flips and flicks down properly tho before i move on to harder surface. I know many prefer that you start out on hard surface, or atleast sand at once. But im to be honest to scared yet. Plus, I have nobody to spot me generally. So it feels safest to train on soft surface at the moment.

If I manage to get some time in the gymnastics hall tomorrow ill film some of my progress, and upload here.

Now im gonna hit the shower. And then watch "house" before I go to bed. Take care everyone.

Recreation

Ive had a great weekend. Good food, and just relaxing. Just what me and Jenny needed.
I actually got some physical activites done during our hotell stay tho. This morning when we woke up, we went to the hotel pool, and did some swimming before breakfast. Felt really refreshing. Then we actually got all our christmas shopping done. Feels good.

Now, I have to point out, that I dont really like the christmas gift madness. A few small gifts, with some thought behind is nice. But I am pretty disgusted by how we humans over consume these days.. Its scary if you think about it, and it sure aint getting any better.. Oh well.

Tomorrow is a new week, new goals, and new adventures. I bid you all a good sunday evening!

Saturday Sunshine

For the first time in weeks, Ive seen the sun. Its been so dark, and rainy for weeks here now. Was great to see some proper daylight! Got me in a good mood, and I decided to skip the gym hall the short moment I had today to train, and take the time to harvest some daylight instead.

So I just got back from a long run. Felt really good, and I feel I am making constant progress in my distances. Plus I can sprint more during the run aswell, without blowing away all my energy.

About 2/3 of the distance, I took a quick stop, did some stretching, and trained my dash vault. Then I ran back the last bit home. Once at my place, I took the time to atempt som dash vaults on the wall I have been having mental problems overcoming. Today I did it for the first time. Was easy and no problem. Its a bit bad height tho. So its not ideal to train at. The rail at my running trail, is alot better in height as a training object. But felt nice to finally get the dash vault down. Now I can hopefully soon do it as easy as I do the kong vault.

Now Im gonna stretch out my body some, and take a long refreshing shower. Then me and my gf (Jenny) are off to Gävle, for a relaxing day and night with hotell. We really need to get away and do something nice just the two of us. Been a while since we did anything fancy like that. Going to be great im sure.

Have a good weekend!

Friday training

Yesterday, I had a good session in the gym. I focused on my back, and on my triceps. Went smooth, and felt really good. Did some deadlift, and I can now max 140 kg. Maybe not so much for some people who might read this, but a good progress for me. In the past my max was 135 kg. So I have made a small improvement compared to when I was as most fit before I started with parkour, and going to the gym more regulary hehe.

Some senior club had booked the hall yesterday too. So they were enjoying themselves with boule or something like that. I did however get a chance to go there when they were done.

I had just set everything up in there, and was just about to get started on working on my flips and some vaults, when my gf calls on my cellphone. She came with me to the gym to train herself, and was going to relax in the sauna as I trained in the gymnastic hall. However, she managed to burn her hand on hot steam, so we had to go home, to get some ice on it.

So I didnt manage to get much time there yesterday either. I did manage to do a few half hearted backflips tho. Just to try to work away my mental barrier for it.

Im going there today aswell, and hopefully nobody is there.

Also, me and my gf will go out of town for the weekend. And wont be home till tomorrow evening. So I dont think ill get any training besides the hall this weekend. But I guess its all good. Cant workout all the time :)

Hope you all get a pleasant weekend. Im sure I will!

And remember!

Happiness is best SHARED

No training today

I couldnt use the gymnastics hall today either unfortunally. Was booked up.
Ill just hope for tomorrow then after my strength session.

Today I was supposed to do condition, but my body is very tired from a long hard week of work, and hard training. So I think ill take it slow today. Besides, the rain is poring down outside..

Ill just do some minor stretching exercices, and some handstand training. Maybe som pushups and situps aswell.

Gotta remember to let the body rest to recover as well.

By the way. I just wanted to mention the movie "Into the wild". It was released around a year agoo I think. But I saw it pretty recently myself. I just have to recomend all of you who happen to read my blog, to go see it. Amazing. Really makes you think.. Dont know what to say really, besides that it made me realize alot about myself, and made me reconsider many things in my life. Anyway. Just go see it!

And yeah, the soundtrack is awsome too. "Into the wild", by Eddie Vedder.
Here is my favourite song from the album:

Strength and no flips

Well, been a good day so far. Got home from work while there was still daylight outside (getting really dark here in Sweden now as the winter creeps in).

I took my dog out for a walk, and let her loose to play, while i did some stretching, and warming up. After about 45 minutes outside harvesting some daylight, I took myself and the dog inside, and got me an banana and a protein drink to get my body some energy for the strength session today. Also got a chance to just rest for half an hour on the couch. Felt great after a hard days work!

Was a good session at the gym. Focused on my shoulders and legs today. And I did alot of pullups/chinups. I felt in pretty good shape, and the training went smooth. I noticed some improvments in my weights, and its always nice to see progress.

I did however not get a chance to train any flips today. The hall was booked by some people playing badminton. So Ill go there tomorrow for some indoor training instead of my condition pass. Ill do some flips, and indoor parkour training. Will prob be good. Going to try to get an hour in there. The chances I have to train in the hall they got there is pretty sporadic, since I dont want to pay any money to book it for just me. I just use it when its free, thanks to the staff being so great about it. They let me in whenever I can, to give me a chance to train my backflips and stuff :)

I think ill keep working on my backflips, frontflips, sideflips, and also train some muscleups and some dash vaulting tomorrow. Might try to set up some smaller obstacle course, that I can run thru. Depends on how much time I get in there.

We will see tomorrow evening how it went.

Besides training. Life feels good at the moment, even tho the darkness of winter comes creeping by. Thank the gods I will have alot of spare time in the coming month. So I can get a good amount of daylight in this dark time of the year.

To bad its raining so much tho. Doesnt make it ideal for parkour.. Even tho I can still do some things. Just have to be careful when its wet and slippery outside.

Time for me now take a long hot shower, and start to think about what to eat for dinner..

Condition

Today was my run day. So, after work when I got home. I grabbed an apple, then hit my route, and started running. Sprinting uphills, and running a bit faster then a jog. Dont know how far I ran, but I have really progressed my running since this summer. So my current schedule is as follows:

Monday = Strength/flips
Tuesday = Condition/Parkour
Wensday = Strength/flips
Thursday = Condition/Parkour
Friday = Strength/flips
Saturday = Parkour*
Sunday = Condition*

*= I might skip that training session depending on my situation. If I have the time for it or not. I have to try to make time for my girlfriend, and other things aswell. :)

This summer when I started working on my condition thru parkour, and by running, I could only run half the way I ran today. And I ran at a slower pace back then. So its really great to see the progression coming along.

I also trained some balance, and did some pullups on a tree branch after my running, and tried to improve my dash vault. In the past I used to lack condition and I wasnt very agile, before I found out about parkour. I did train now and then, on a random basis. For a period of time id train pretty regulary. Then id have a break, and then start to train again.. Stretching I felt, was totally meaningless. But I have learned better. Since I want to be agile and able to preform at my best when I do parkour, I stretch alot nowdays. Also in the past, I felt I had no real use for condition. I just wanted to be strong. Another thing that has changed. Now I feel that I am in the best shape ever in my life. And my body is living prof of it. I have never have been in this deffed and strong before, and its constantly improving to the better. So I feel great.

Plus, I have managed to completly rid myself of my computer addiction I used to have. I have always been a very sporty person, and always been pretty fit. But I have still spent waaay to much time by the computer. Now since I have started with parkour, and my view of life has changed completly, I actually find it rather boring to waste my time by the computer, knowing I could spend that time improving my body instead.

I did have a minor mental setback tho. I thought I had the mental skills for dash vault. I did it last friday outside on a rail with no problem. Now, today I try it on a small wall. And somehow I just block, and cant do it.

I mean, I do the jump and all, but instead of placing both of my hands down, I somehow instinctly just place my left hand down, leaving my right hand in the air. I just cant put that right hand down.

I managed to pull it off once or twice, but im somehow mentaly blocked from placing both my hands down. Atleast on that object. Inside the gym, and on that rail I trained earlier last week, there is no problem at all. Guess im not 100% confident deep within on my skill to pull it off, and therefore I hesitate enough to fail. Ill just keep trying I guess.

Never bothered in the past to learn it. But now I feel annoyed that I can pull it off. Its not a hard vault. Just mentaly challengeing for me atleast. Dont know, maybe the wall I tried it on is a bit to low for it too. Might make it harder. I guess I should train it over and over again for a week or two on an object im confident at before I try to pull it off at any other place.

Guess that is one of my current goals. To pull off the dash vault with ease. Just as easy as I do a monkey or kong or what you prefer to call it over any chosen object. Ill train on it some more tomorrow. Now im gonna get the dinner ready.

And a note to self. Ill try to write a bit less. These massive walls of text might be a bit much to read hehe..

Power and control

Hi there. Today I had a good day at the gym. Trained mostly my strength in biceps, and chest. Was a good session, and it felt really good. I havent been able to train full out due to an injury in my elbow, wich is almost healed now. So it feels great.

Worked alot on my pullups and chinups today, noticed I have lost some of my power in those. My goal is to be able to do a couple of muscleups in a row soon. So I train alot of pullups everyday. However, due to my elbow, I dont dare to atempt the muscleup just yet. I can do it, if I let one arm at a time shift over to the upper position. Where I end up having the bar at my waist, and my upper body above the bar. Not enough technique and strength yet to switch over with both my arms.. Hmm, im rambling hehe. Not sure if any of what im writing is making any sence either :)

Anyway, besides the gym wich felt really good, I also hit the gymnastics hall they have there. The gym is in a school, and their training hall has limited stuff for gymnastic exercises. But they have enough for me to try some new stuff out in. For instance, I now have finally gotten over my mental barrier regarding the dash vault. So I took the chance to train some dash vaults today to refine my technique(I did overcome it outside tho. And I my first "real and pure" dash vaults was actually made over a rail, even tho people advice not to do dash vault over rails, but rather over smaller walls and similair). Also I trained some front flips, and backflips for body control. I think of flips training as a good way to challenge myself mentaly. The backflip has for a couple of months been somewhat of a big mental challenge for me. Ive had big problems to dare to do it when im there alone. And ive hesitated alot even when ive had people along aswell. Last friday tho, it was like something just snapped in my mind. I just wasnt affraid anymore. It was really odd, but the sensation was great. I felt so free in my mind, and I had so much fun, and I could just do the backflips over, and over again. Was great!

Now it seems the barrier is gone. Atleast in the gym hall. I hope to be able to dare it on harder surfaces soon enough. Atleast with a spotter. Im currently forcing my girlfriend to spot me whenever she is along in the gym, wich works great so far. She is great support :)

Anyway, been a really good day. I do front flips, back flips, both from ground level, and higher up, and I have also started to dare to try and learn the ehrm.. dont know the term for it, but its like a hand stand flip. But backwards. "Backflick"? Really fun either way. Really helps with my mental barriers, I learn I can do more then I thought, and I eventually overcome things not thought possible, wich in turn helps me out alot in other obstacles in parkor and life. And most importantly! Its a fun way of training! :)

Tomorrow I will focus mostly on conditioning. A long refreshing run, and maybe some balance training. We will see. No strength tho.

Remember, if your mind is free, your body will follow!

First post

Ok.. Here we go!

Ill try to keep some sort of record here, of my training and progression within parkour, and with my training overall.

Hopefully ill remember to keep it up to date.

Today, I wont write anything more, as I am tired, and I work all weekend long. So, im just satisfied with have created the blog hee hee.

Anyway, starting monday, ill start writing something a bit interesting. Ill try my best not to get carried away into useless discussions.

We will start with my current status, my goals and my current ways of training.
Hopefully this blogg will help me evolve my training, giving me a forum to air my ideas, and thoughts. And hopefully if anyone is reading, ill get some productive responses. We will see monday!

Farewell for now.
